Zahara, a beautiful, single, thirty-five year-old Nigerian immigrant, has opened Peppersoup Junction, a food and beverage shop in San
Francisco that sells pepper soup and other African dishes. Zahara loves to host Africans and she goes out of her way to bring her community
together. Ayana and Shoorai are Zahara’s nineteen-year-old college employees. They are African stud
ents attending San Francisco State. Themba,
the busboy is a political science graduate student at UC Berkeley. There are
six regular customers, five men and a woman. In addition to her restaurant,
Zahara hopes to be a wedding consultant, caterer and host of any events
that promote African culture. On some occasions non-regulars come in to
Peppersoup Junction for meetings or just to kill time and hang out. The driving
forces here are that the men come to this watering hole not only for drink and
food, but also for the possibility of winning Zahara's heart.
